The NEDC Breathe Easy Recognition Program

The NEDC Breathe Easy Recognition Program recognizes the outstanding efforts of individuals or organizations who are actively promoting the goals of the NEDC. The NEDC Breathe Easy Leadership Award is given to those individuals or organizations that have demonstrated leadership in reducing diesel emissions and have made significant contributions to improving air quality and public health.

Nominated parties are judged on their effectiveness in meeting the NEDC's goals and the degree to which they lead and inspire others to step up their efforts in reducing diesel emissions.

About the Northeast Diesel Collaborative (NEDC)

The NEDC is a regionally coordinated public-private initiative to reduce diesel emissions, improve public health, and promote clean diesel technology. The Collaborative brings together the collective resources and expertise of several state environmental agencies, EPA regional offices, and private sector companies to address the existing fleet of diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.

NEDC goals are to:

  • Retrofit, upgrade, repower, replace and retire older diesel engines
  • Reduce idling through the promotion of idling alternatives for mobile sources, such as truck stop electrification, auxiliary power units, bunk heaters, electric plug-ins, automatic start/stop technologies, etc.
  • Promote use of clean diesel technologies in contract specifications
  • Promote cleaner fuels beyond local, state and federal requirements
  • Create and disseminate educational opportunities and materials for key sectors and stakeholders
  • Measure and assess program effectiveness
